AMENDS “SO FAR FROM HOME” OUT JULY 19

Home has always been an elusive concept for Amends. Over the years, they have garnered a loyal fanbase in Sydney’s local scene through honest introspection and lyrical storytelling.

Their highly anticipated debut album “So Far From Home” showcases a band with depth and wisdom that belies their youth. It blends the alt-country influence of artists such as Memphis legends Lucero, with the modern rock n roll sensibilities of Dave Hause. It’s a distinctly mature approach as singer Luke McDonald explores themes of love and all its pitfalls, disappointing those we hold dear, being an outcast, and learning to live with our failures and shortcomings.

“So Far From Home” was produced and mixed by Tom Sigal and mastered by Aaron Dobos (British India, Stonefield, Ceres, Amanda Palmer). The album also marks the permanent addition of Ellen Tamp on bass and violin, rounding out the four-piece line-up.

THE LAZY SUSANS “R U OK?” EP OUT FEBRUARY 1

Resist Records welcomes The Lazy Susans to its roster. After a year of touring and two trips around Australia on the back of Debut EP Closure, The Lazy Susans (FKA Antonia & The Lazy Susans), today release their new single ‘R U OK?’.

‘R U OK?’, recorded, produced and mixed by Sam Johnson (Camp Cope, The Smith Street Band) is the first taste of things to come from the band’s forthcoming debut album. A track that tackles, and highlights, the importance of mental health and checking up on your friends; exploring themes of feeling alone, even when surrounded by people. ‘R U OK?’ is a song of survival and the ways we cope with mental health. Asked of the inspiration behind ‘R U OK?’ Antonia labels the song “An anthem for anyone feeling alone”.

Blue Mountains formed, now Melbourne based The Lazy Susans write heart-on-sleeve alt-rock rammed full of infectious melodies. A blistering start to their career has seen the band in the national support slots for the likes of AJJ and The Hard Aches, land festival sets at The Smith Street Band’s Pool House Party and Til the Wheels Fall Off.

“R U OK?” will be released on February 1st and will be available on coloured vinyl 7”, Cassette and digitally.

MODERN LIFE IS WAR AUSTRALIAN TOUR

Formed in early 2002 in Marshalltown, Iowa, Modern Life Is War went on to release four full length albums: My Love. My Way. (2003), Witness (2005), Midnight in America (2007), and Fever Hunting (2013). Like a lot of bands, they have been through many highs and lows. Broken Vans, breakups, reunions, injuries, tours, lineup changes, mental illness, peaks, valleys, misery and general confusion. The members of the band value creativity, self-expression and independent thought and do their best to represent that with their music and lyrics.

Along the way they have developed a wildly supportive cult of supporters who allow the band to keep traveling and recording. June 2018 saw the band announce “Tribulation Worksongs” an ongoing singles series which to date has seen the release of Volumes 1 and 2, with the next 2 volumes due in 2019.

March 2019 sees the band touring Australia for the very first time, with Sydney’s Homesick joining them on all dates. Tickets on sale Thursday January 10.

CONVERGE ANNOUNCE DOWNLOAD SIDE SHOWS

Forming in Massachusetts in 1990, Converge are regarded as pioneers within the aggressive music arena. In November last year they released ‘The Dusk In Us’, a brutal but beautiful album that shows the band’s artistic evolution while still capturing their classic sound. The ninth full-length from the Boston, MA-based heavy-music innovators – vocalist Jacob Bannon, guitarist Kurt Ballou, bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller – “The Dusk In Us”: proves to be both dark and hopeful, abrasive and melodic, devastating and powerfully cathartic. While “The Dusk In Us” finds Converge defying boundaries and pushing into new sonic terrain, it’s also a natural progression for a band that’s long thrived on making music that both challenges and connects.

Baltimore co-ed feminist hardcore-punk band War On Women were born screaming at the world, formed in 2011 from a solid foundation of driving riffs and in your face vocals that attack the listener both sonically and lyrically. Penning catchy and confrontational songs that touch on rape culture, street harassment, the gender wage gap, transphobia, and other vitally pertinent social issues. They have been touring relentlessly since the release of their debut self-titled full LP in 2015. War On Women are neither a crew of young bucks nor a contagion of seasoned legends. They don’t fit neatly into metalloid machismo or hulking hardcore tropes. They have nothing to prove, and there’s nothing more delightfully dangerous than that.

Converge and War On Women have announced Australian Tour dates to go along with their upcoming appearance at Download Festival in March, tickets on sale Tuesday November 27. There are no shows to be added in Sydney and Melbourne, Download will be your only opportunity.

RECOVERY ROOM “WALLFLOWER” OUT DECEMBER 7

Resist Records welcomes Recovery Room to its roster. Recovery Room is a Sydney-based emo / indie rock band that began in 2016 as a necessary outlet for frontman Dylan Mallia. At that time, the band consisted only of Mallia and guitarist Christian Saunders, both having previously played together in Sydney melodic hardcore band ‘Clipped Wings’.

After an early 2017 self-release, the band permanently established a full lineup by adding bassist Dave Parker (of Sweater Season) and drummer Isaac Ross (of Above, Below). They spent the year playing locally around Sydney, whilst writing their first collection of music as a full band.
The result of this is ‘Wallflower’, a collection of nine angst-driven, introspective songs written about a range of personal experiences since the inception of the band. Further experimenting with their particular blend of indie rock styles, Wallflower dives further into a mix of simple melodic ideas meeting occasionally math rock-influenced guitar work.

With the exception of drums, which was recorded with Chris Blancato at the helm, the majority of the record was recorded in a tiny Newtown bedroom. The mixing and mastering portion of the record was left to U.S.A-based producer Jack Shirley, previously of Comadre & Everybody Row, at his Oakland, California studio.
