JACOB “SHOW ME SOME PASSION” OUT NOVEMBER 2

Resist Records welcomes Jacob to its roster. Despite being split between the two steel cities of New South Wales – Wollongong and Newcastle – the current incarnation of Jacob is tighter than ever before. With bassist Ruari Burns taking lead vocals for the first time, they look to redefine and reintroduce themselves with Show Me Some Passion: a catchy, energetic album filled genuine emotion and lyrics so romantic you’d swear they were singing the song just for you.

Recorded at Newcastle’s Woodriver Studios, the album was produced by Aaron Dobos (Ceres, The Avalanches) and recorded by Joe Andersons, who worked with the band on their self-titled 2016 debut. The album also features the “oh so sweet” harmonies of Canberra band Moaning Lisa, as well as horns from local ska enthusiast Geoff Reid.

PIANOS BECOME THE TEETH ANNOUNCE AUSTRALIAN TOUR

Baltimore indie post-hardcore band Pianos Become the Teeth have announced Australian dates for 2019. Having toured Australia in 2017 with Luca Brasi and in 2013 with La Dispute, February 2019 sees the band headlining Australia for the first time.

With the recent release of their fourth full-length, Wait For Love follows 2014’s acclaimed Keep You. Lauded by Pitchfork as “captivating in its evocative detail” and “their best material yet” by Brooklyn Vegan.

Produced and engineered by Will Yip, Wait For Love shows the band reconciling their aggressive past with the atmospheric turns of Keep You. The album eschews stylistic traps in order to focus on songwriting and feels like a full-realization of what the band have hinted at in the past.

HOMESICK “TERRA NULLIUS” OUT SEPTEMBER 14

Emerging from Darug Country in Sydney’s west and comprised of former members of bands such as Persist, Civil War, Flame The Fire and Clipped Wings, Homesick are a band that proudly wear their influences and heritage on their sleeves while also forging a new sound. Standing on the shoulders of the giants of 2000’s melodic hardcore, Homesick are steering the sound in a new and exciting direction.

In an era of Australian hardcore that’s lacking bands with political messages, progressive thinking and raw emotive content, Homesick step in to fill that void covering a multitude of powerful subject matters that range from political commentary to personal issues and the struggles that Indigenous Australians face in modern society.

Homesick’s well received first LP “Won’t Let Go”, released in March of 2017 led to them sharing stages with bands such as Turnstile, Stick To Your Guns, Death By Stereo, Dangers, Mindsnare, Rebirth, Outright as well as a national tour with their close friends in Vices and Conveyor.

Barely more than one year later Homesick are back with another ferocious LP, “Terra Nullius”, produced by Jay Maas (Verse, Defeater, Bane, The Carrier).

No punches were held on this 11 track release that features the speed and melodic elements that Homesick are becoming notorious for. Filled with blisteringly raw tenacity, power and an increasingly important message, “Terra Nullius” continues to push the sounds we all grew up on, deeper into new territory.

TIGERS JAW AUSTRALIAN TOUR NOVEMBER 2018

Comprised of Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins, Tigers Jaw has gripped listeners and press across the globe with their candid compositions and alluring harmonies. spin sees Walsh and Collins trading off lead vocals which glow with sincerity on this collection of incredibly understated indie-pop classics. Their fifth full length marks a new chapter for the Scranton, Pennsylvania-based indie rock band for many reasons: Not only is it the first collection of songs that was completely written and recorded solely by Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins, but it was also the first time they had a full month in the studio without having to worry about outside responsibilities. Furthermore it’s the inaugural release on Atlantic Records’ new imprint Black Cement, a label spearheaded by the band’s longtime collaborator Will Yip who returned to the production helm for spin.

Tracks such as “Guardian,” “June,” and “Escape Plan” shine on spin, which follows Tigers Jaw’s 2014 critically adored LP, Charmer. “…The sound of a band bravely moving forward,” declared Pitchfork while Stereogum applauded Walsh and Collins’, “…soul-baring lyrical honesty,” adding, “Tigers Jaw are a revelation…” Profoundly personal and vibrantly textured, spin exhibits Walsh and Collins’ remarkable ability to capture the sentiments and complexities of a moment through melody and introspection.

November 2018 will see Tigers Jaw return to Australia, tickets on sale Thursday July 19.

TEMPEST “SELF TITLED” EP OUT NOW

A Tempest can either be a destructive force or a creative fury against the abuse of humans, animals and the Earth. Humanity is at a turning point where we have the choice to fight or to stand by and watch the world burn. Change must happen and what better place to start than our hardcore scene.

Tempest is a band born out of the desire of five people, coming from backgrounds in activism, art and education, to use music as a tool in the fight against the destruction of our world. This band is the result of a combined love for music, animals and the environment that all members share.

Most of the band met through volunteering with the marine conservation organisation, Sea Shepherd, with the first Tempest riffs written aboard a ship amidst the waves, while campaigning to protect the oceans. Since then, with members spread out around the world, recordings and ideas started to bounce back and forth and songs started to take shape. Tempest’s sound is the result of many combined influences. From 90’s bands such as Earth Crisis, Trial and Indecision as well as more modern influences like Bane, Incendiary and Stick To Your Guns.

With members originating from all corners of the globe, and from bands such as Undying, To Kill, and Meatlocker, Tempest draws on the past to create a new sound. The band met to fine tune the songs and record an EP in Rome in December of 2017.

Tempest is now available on 7″ and on all digital platforms.
